Almost too late to think about it. Long afternoon naps while it’s hot and then waiting for cooler darkness to sleep out on the patio. Someday this will be a screen porch full of exotic flowering plants. For now, the gentle giants, my best friends, and I hose down the concrete and sleep lightly. We awaken to birdsong when the morning comes on cooler. How subtle the barrier that walls and roof make to all too familiar worlds of our own backyards. Especially at night and in the predawn waking of our habitats.
